What witness to the the world might the Church give if we did think more deeply about what God has already given us in Christ?
What if the Church refused to get caught up in the general consumer craziness that goes along with Christmas? Not that we shouldn’t buy our family and friends gifts, but certainly crushing into a mega-store at 4 AM fails to give God proper glory.
But what if instead we gave of ourselves more fully? If we gave of our time, our money, and ourselves to say, “God has come down! God has come in the flesh! Jesus was born so that He might die upon the cross for sinners! This is what Christmas is all about! Repent, and put your faith in Him!”
The commercials and the sales inserts and the window displays all shout that love is buying more stuff. Don’t you believe it.
In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
1 John 4:10-11 (ESV)
Keep bringing your friends and family back to the “reason for the season” – Christ Jesus. And tell them about the great gift of love God has given to all who believe in Him.
Blessings,
David
